Archive notes: Show is dated August 23, 1983 in the Internet Archive, but as noted here, the show aired Tuesday nights from 1-3am (so, really, Wednesday morning). The date for this does make sense given the ad at the very end for a show on "Wednesday, August 24." Additionally, it sounds like the episode starts to repeat halfway through side A.
In late 1982/early 1983, DJ Afrika Islam (aka "The Son of Bambaataa") launched the Zulu Beat show on New York's WHBI, making it one of the first pure hip-hop shows on the radio. Along with his co-host Donald D, Afrika Islam would spin the same heavy breaks and hip-hop from 1-3am on Wednesday mornings that he'd spin at the Roxy on Friday night.
