Capital Rap Show (Mike Allen)

The Capital Rap Show hosted by Mike Allen was broadcast from London, England, UK. It ran from late 1984 to July 1987. It was broadcast to London and the surrounding areas each Friday and Saturday night. Advancing from the sounds of jazz-fusion on early 1984 shows to, in later years, having a combination of a countdown of the biggest selling hip-hop records on a Friday, and new releases and LP cuts on a Saturday. It is widely regarded as a point of entry for a generation of people that grew up with hip-hop culture in the UK.

On air, the countdown was referred to as the Groove Records hip-hop Sales Chart. In national music magazine Echoes each week, it was known as the Electro Funk Groove Chart, fundamentally, both were an indispensable top 30 list of the biggest selling records available from arguably the most famous hip-hop record shop in Europe, Groove Records in Greek Street, London. The show also featured a weekly discussion of all the latest Rap news on Billboard journalist Chuck Chill's "New York Juice Report." For around a year, it was also broadcast nationwide to several local radio stations across the UK. This show was sponsored by TDK Cassettes, and known as National Fresh.
