The Kenny K Wax Attack

Kenny K, Digital Underground's founding DJ, launched Tampa's first hip-hop radio show in 1986 on community radio WMNF 88.5 FM. The show aired on Saturdays at midnight and ran through 1994. During his career, Kenny worked not only with Digital Underground and Public Enemy, but also inspired and encouraged many local hip-hop acts. notes that "[h]is career was stopped short by the need of a liver transplant in late 1993. Kenny K Waters died on February 5th 1994. Due to the fact that he did not have health insurance, his name was not admitted to the waiting list for organ donors."1
